Small Skiers

It wouldn't be the cabin without some skiing. Ben led the way for all the other kids on some borrowed "magic" learning skis.
Not to be outdone by her older brother, Eliza followed next, making it look pretty easy.
Then Abby was up. "Don't lose your confidence!!"
As ever, dad was a patient teacher, waiting with the kids in the water and helping them achieve a vertical position. I remember when he used to put our skis on us in the boat and carefully lift us over the edge. I wonder how many people he's taught to ski over the years.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of some of the best skiing moments, like when little Nate (4) skied in a crouch position, or when Ben yelled 'hit it' and pulled MaryAnn right off the Sea Doo, or really when any adult skied. Sea Doo skiing isn't really condusive to photography like a boat is. Still, for being 14 years old and only having 65 horsepower, the Sea Doo was remarkably adept at pulling up anyone who wanted to ski. Maybe it just illustrates one of the Selkirk Lodge's maxims: you don't need technology if you have technique. It made me wonder if the Sea Doo's power was equal to that of the boats dad was learning on when he was a teenager. Maybe that's why he uses his right foot as a rudder.
