We celebrated our anniversary with a weekend in Cannon Beach. The sun came up this morning so we strolled on the beach for a few hours. Just the two of us.

Ella: Good news mom. It rains a lot in Portland. Guess what my favorite shoes are? Absolutely galoshes.

For my birthday, Andrew gave me breakfast in bed; Ella gave me chocolate; Claire gave me a day of no diaper removal; Wendy gave me new galoshes; Portland gave me some sunny skies; and America gave everyone a day off.

Claire has two Mommies

Claire used to say the word "Da Da", but has mysteriously stopped. No she refers to both parents as "Ma Ma", which nettles her father.



We all have our own way of smoothing "The Other Mommy's" feathers. I call him "The Other Mommy", or point out that we constantly conflates Claire and Ella's names, so turnabout can be expected. Claire hugs him and says "Ma Ma" in an endearingly high voice. Ella's tactics are the most nuanced. A few days ago she told him "Don't worry daddy, "Ma Ma" is just Claire's word for "the Person that She Loves Most"."
